Series

A series is a film which is send every week or day to the same time on the same channel with a consecutive act.

Series are classified in different genres, those are: teen-, family-, children’s-, adventure-, action-, crime-, science fiction- and doctor series.

They owe their success to the fact that the actors don’t change and sometimes there are cameos of well known celebrities. The fact that actors don’t change makes them familiar with the viewers, they think they know them and it seems like we could put us in their position.

One of the first world-wide known series was “Superman”. The first time broadcasted in 1951, “Superman” is well known by young and old till this day. Also broadcastet in the 50s were “Bonanza” (western), Rin Tin Tin and Lassie.

The choice between the different series was bigger in the 60s, because they started to produce in other countries like Germany and Great Britain and not only in the U.S.A. A new superhero came into television too – Batman. And there were not only dogs leading actors in series, a dolphin won the children’s and adult’s hearts – Flipper.

Also the genres were widened. Star Trek was the first science fiction series with a big success in 1966. The Swedish series for children “Pippi Longstocking” is until today well known by small children and it was a big export hit.

In 1976 the first crime film came in television – Charlie’s Angels. Three attractive female detectives Jill Munroe, Sabrina Duncan and Kelly Garrett solved cases for the rich Charlie Townsend.

In the 80s a lot of popular series were released: The A-Team (Mr. T), 21 Jump Street (Johnny Depp), Alf, Family Matters, Baywatch (David Hasselhoff & Pamela Anderson), The Bill Cosby Show (cameo appearance: Michael Jordan, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder), Dynasty, Knight-Rider (David Hasselhoff), Miami Vice and The Smurfs.

The 90s were the time of a lot of traditional animation: Beavis and Butt-Head, Futurama, Pokemon, Sailor Moon, SpongeBob SquarePants and South Park. But also other success were broadcasted: The X-Files, Emergency Room, Friends, Mr. Bean and Startrek.

The hype on crime films began in 2000. Some examples are: 24, Alias, Boston Public, CSI, Criminal Minds, Monk, Navy CIS and Prison Break.
